For coaching to be effective, coaches need to create a space where clients feel open and safe. Coaching presence is pivotal to maintaining an effective coaching space. Relational Presence helps coaches create and maintain an open, safe coaching space.

Relational Presence is the ability to truly be with another in the moment without agenda or distraction. Relational Presence is like a muscle that can be trained through practice. In this interactive workshop, executive coach Takahiro Kurata will introduce the essence of how to train your Relational Presence muscle that helps you to develop your coaching presence.

Takahiro will share how this simple, yet highly effective practice grounded in the teachings of Speaking Circles® helped him as a new coach—and can help you, too—to:

Tap into inner stillness before a coaching session starts
      Hold silence in coaching sessions
      Maintain focus in the moment

The practice of Relational Presence pertains especially to these specific Core Competency markers:

2-6. Develops and maintains the ability to regulate one’s emotions
2-7. Mentally and emotionally prepares for sessions
4-6. Demonstrates openness and transparency as a way to display vulnerability and build trust with the client
5-3. Manages one’s emotions to stay present with the client
5-4. Demonstrates confidence in working with strong client emotions during the coaching process
5-6. Creates or allows space for silence, pause or reflection

Through experiential exercises at this meeting, you will:

Gain awareness of the current strength of your Relational Presence muscle
Practice a way of training the muscle
Practice how to apply Relational Presence to your coaching
The Coaching in English Group is open to any coach or would-be coach of any nationality who uses (or wants to use) English professionally in their coaching sessions.
